Chutties express is an endeavour carried out by rathinavani community radio in association with Unicef & India Community Radio Association. where we visit nearby grama panchayath and tribal communities to spread awareness regarding girl child education and prevention of child marriage.
We visited a village near thondamuthur in our home district of coimbatore. When interacting with a group of young students, one problem kept surfacing. Though education provided by their local school and its infrastructure is well maintained, the kids face difficulties once they return home in the evening. Their after school education is often disrupted by inadequate house infrastructure, like lights and study desks, reference books etc. On the personal front, the parents often quarrel when the father arrives home in an inebriated state. To provide a solution for this problem, we have teamed up with Edudharma to launch an initiative to build a library/community hall near the school premises where the girl students will have access to a proper study environment.
Providing them with this will drastically improve the student drop out rates, and over the course will prevent many evils against women like child marriage etc. The entire outlay/cost of the community hall/library is in the range of 4 to 5 lakh INR.
